Unemployment in Windsor dipped slightly to 14.8 per cent in August, but the jobless rate remained the highest in the country for the 14th straight month, according to figures released Friday by StatsCan.
According to StatsCan, the local labour force shrank by 2,200 in August, which more than offset the 1,100 who lost their jobs, thus creating a slight drop in the jobless rate.
Vincent Ferrao of StatsCan said there are various reasons for a decrease in the labour force, which represents the number of people considered to be actively seeking work.
"Some people may have left the city, some have gone back to school for retraining, others have retired and some may well have taken a buyout and are simply assessing their options before they rejoin the labour force," said Ferrao. "Depending upon what your last job was, people may well be assessing their options and trying to decide what to do.
