Windsor's naval reservists may soon be able to get their sea legs right at the doorstep as Ottawa explores plans to relocate landlocked HMCS Hunter to the waterfront.
The Department of National Defence is negotiating with the Windsor Port Authority to lease the former Mill Cove Marina lands at the foot of Mill Street to build a new headquarters for the local naval reserve division.
Defence Construction Canada, a Crown corporation charged with infrastructure procurements for DND, has issued a "call for expression of interest" from architectural and engineering consultant firms for a replacement for HMCS Hunter's current home on Ouellette Avenue.
