Invest Windsor > NewsBids sought for engineering school - University of Windsor
September 8, 2009
Construction of the University of Windsor's new engineering building may start as early as November after the board of governors endorsed the university's decision on Wednesday to allow bids from construction companies.
The university will call tenders Sept. 8 for construction of the Centre for Engineering Innovation, a 300,000- square-foot building that will cost $112 million.
The university has a list of six possible construction companies, two of which are local, and will give the companies four to six weeks to respond with bids.
"I think it's fair to say that everyone's really excited about this. It's a very significant day for the university and the community," said university president Alan Wildeman. "(The building has) gone from concept to ... paper, the next step is to go to bricks and mortar."
