Like its provincial cousins, the University of Windsor is growing more popular.
Applications from high school students for 2010 are up at the school by 1.5 per cent. The Windsor increase reflects a decade-long trend across the province, where applications from high school students this year rose 2.7 per cent.
"We're very pleased with the increase," University of Windsor registrar Clayton Smith said Tuesday. "In general, this is great news for us."
Smith said another notable increase comes from non-secondary applications, up at the University of Windsor 4.8 per cent, almost doubling the 2.6 per cent trend across the province.
The University of Windsor has about 15,000 students. At its peak a few years ago during the "double-cohort" -- the increase created from the elimination of Grade 13, when two grades entered university at the same time -- the school boasted 17,000 students.
"In the last several years we have been flat or slightly down," Smith said. "So going up is great."
Some of the most popular programs include education, criminology, sociology, human kinetics and nursing. He said the school can accommodate increases in all those programs except nursing, where enrolment is capped....
