Local house sales rebound slightly in Windsor Ontario

WINDSOR, Ont. -- Home sales in Windsor and Essex County rebounded slightly in 2009 thanks to lower prices and despite continued high unemployment.
Home sales were up 4.8 per cent over 2008 and just three per cent below 2007, according to statistics released Tuesday by the Windsor-Essex County Real Estate Board.
But the average sale price of $156,615 was below the average for 2008, when it was $162,599, and 2007, when it was $166,196.
“I think people are still guarded and cautious, but I think there’s more confidence out there,” said real estate board president Anna Vozza.
“A lot of it is the automobile business is back to work. When they saved that third shift at Chrysler, there was a big change.… The big thing is there’s a turnaround in the confidence of the buying public overall. Sales are up 4.8 per cent and maybe they’re beginning to see that little by little we’re going to come out of the recession...
