Tears probably won’t be shed when the makeshift “onion” stage at the Windsor festival plaza becomes history in the new year.
A proposed permanent replacement introduced to council Monday night will become “the crown jewel” of the waterfront, predicts Rita Ossington of the Canada South Festival Network.
“This is an exciting project for the festivals,” she told council, adding it’s “an organizers’ dream” that will turn some of Windsor’s special events into “real tourism draws.”
The biggest change will see a new covered stage turned 180 degrees to face east instead of west, a move designed to address the ongoing noise complaints from some residents in adjacent highrises.
Parks and facility operations executive director Don Sadler said low-level bass volumes of concern in the past will now be “something like the sound of a bus” to those neighbours.
